File extension old information
File extension .OLD is an indicator denoting backup copies for a file. This extension is added to a file name once a newer version of the same is created. The same is given when a recent version of a file has been saved by a specific program. The .OLD is positioned right after the last suffix of the original file. At such, the file.doc.OLD would be the backup or newer version of file.doc file. An application can automatically create the file extension .OLD but the same can be done manually by the system user.
Cannot open old files in Windows?
Not being able to open old files in Windows may be a result of registry errors or not having the appropriate application installed. It is strongly recommended that you scan your computer for registry errors (free).Although the file extension is common in both Windows and Macintosh, it requires that the original applications used to create the file be used to access or open them, failure to which the user may encounter various application association errors. In case of software generated .OLD, opening the newer version of the same may pose problems and the solution is to completely delete the .OLD file. The automatic generation of the .OLD file extension is quite helpful to a user since it enables changes made on the original document to be reversed.
